THE TECHNOLOGY - THE KNOWHOW

During the design phase we always pay close attention to the balance between weight, shape and keel stability as well as the height of the rigging. Through this, we achieve a very maximun cruising speed while retaining good sea handling qualities. The key to good sea handling is, in our opinion, a high ballast ratio. The advantage is obvious. The yacht sails faster as it can retain full sail area for longer and the deeper keel contributes to an improved course stability. Hull shape and draft influence the sea handling qualities far more than the keel and rudder shape do.

Unfortunately every advantage has also a disadvantage. Although the high ballast ratio has a positive effect on sea handling qualities, it also has an escalating effect on the construction costs. More ballast means increased total weight, which in turn requires a larger rig. This increases the static and dynamic forces which effect the construction requirements of the hull. For this reason, we build SUNBEAM YACHTS with a massive floor system and very thick laminate. This guarantees high quality and a long life for our yachts.

It is imperative for us that high quality is maintained at all levels. This begins with design and development, the materials used and is carried through to the final quality control. To maintain our renowned high quality, our 70 qualified craftsman and staff carry out quality checks during all phases of the construction. Potential faults can be recognised and rectified immediately. The final quality check is carried out by the work supervisor during an internal hand-over of the finished yacht to one of the two directors.
